For Example: ....Write a half of Page story talking about door knocking and doing voter registration and encountering someone who has never voted before and you registered them and they are now going around their neighborhood registering voters. Get a quote from the person and connect the quote to the excitement about democracy. Or.... .....Tell a story about people who cannot vote but are committed to making sure people who can vote get out and vote..... Or... .....Tell the story of how many Concordia students have been registered and that there is a forum of the candidates, interview a student about why voting is or is not important to them. What we will do with the stories is reshape them into a press release and send them out to the Local Media Stations. We will then do follow up calls within a few days of sending out the Press Releases. About the Time Of the Media Team Meeting If Thursday, September 23rd at 10:30 Am does not work for you to meet as the Media Team, Name some other times you can meet and perhaps we can split the group up to meet at the other times and use this list to communicate, edit and work as a larger group. Now, an interesting thing happen on the way to the forum, only one side has committed to participate. This is just not acceptable. Those of us involved in this have made a solid honest effort to keep this thing non-partisan. And, in our efforts to tread this political jungle, and deal with the current political climate, we seem to be running into more and more of a reluctance to participate based on who's hosting the event. If you want to get real about it, the event is being hosted by the people, and for the people.....that's it, no more, no less. The opportunity to address a very diverse group of people is looming on the horizon for these candidates. For this campaign, we have been teaming up with other organizations in the F-M area and have had quite a bit of success these past six weeks. We have been focusing our effort on inspiring apathetic voters, low-income people, communities of color, students, women and other individuals who are not as likely to vote. During this time we have registered nearly 1,000 voters and hope to greatly increase that number before October 12th, the deadline for pre-registration in MN. Throughout this Campaign, we are also focusing on building leadership within PEPP and the other partner organizations. The Get Out AND Vote Campaign is a tool to build leaders, particularly women and individuals of color, who will be more politically engaged in our community. We anticipate that over 150 people will attend this event. The main goal of this activity is to bring together the Moorhead and Fargo communities around the celebration of Democracy. We have been focusing on creating opportunities for leadership development and many college age women are participating in the visioning and planning of this event. The Walk and Roll Planning Team has put a concerted effort into finding women in the community that are public, have run or held public office and can be inspirational to other women in our community, to speak at the event. The group continues to actively educate Fargo residents on bringing identification and proof of residence to the polls November 2nd and the group hopes to greatly increase the number of registered Voters in Minnesota before October 12th, the deadline for pre-registration in MN. The MN Secretary of State Office has recently ordered the printing of Voter registration cards in response to an increase in statewide voter registration drives. According to Clay County Auditor Lori Johnson, they have experienced an increase in voter registration activity and they have ordered an additional 10,000 cards. The cards should be in next week and we have been assured that there are enough cards to handle the active voter registration drives in Moorhead. The Get Out AND Vote Collaborative will continue to host activities to encourage voter turn out on Election Day. On October 7th, the group will host the Walk and Roll for Democracy. This is an event connecting Moorhead and Fargo around the celebration of democracy. The event is non-partisan and focuses on participating in democracy and to encourage people to vote November. WHAT: WALK AND ROLL FOR DEMOCRACY WHEN: OCTOBER 7th AT 5:30pm TO MIDNIGHT **The event kicks off at Moorhead City Hall with several public speakers and live music from "Buck's Band-Its." The crowd will then walk, roll, and ride to Fargo City Hall for a 6:30pm rally with speakers, ending at 7:00pm. Eve's Action will be hosting an all-age "Rock the Vote" concert at the Great Northern Restaurant from 8pm to midnight.
