Minutes you may want to review before the meeting......

Mary brought a typed version of the proposed mission statement to approve.
The
revised draft stated: "A multi-partisan grass roots organization, Women's
Political
Action's mission is to change the face of political power by increasing
the numbers
of women in elective and appointed offices through identifying, recruiting
and
supporting progressive women candidates.
This version will be officially approved and accepted at the next meeting,
Wednesday, July 13th. Lysa Ringquist is verifying the next meeting location.
Group discussion led by Esther on the meaning of "progressive." The group
decided
that we would create a set of core values to clarify our meaning of
progressive. The
proposed values are listed as:
1. Equal access to health care.
2. Equal access to education.
3. Support diversity
4. All voices be heard (speak up or invite those who are not represented)
5. Securing personal safety for all
6. Promoting qual representation of women in all levels of government.
7. Self determination and control over our bodies
8. Committed to service with integrity
9. Respect and value expanded definition of family
10. "Housing issues" (make housing accessible and affordable in our
community)
11. Geographic boundaries are not an issue (for the question of "where do our
candidates come from?"
Group discussion focused on the 3 projects of necessity of our group:
Structure,
Building Base, and working on a campaign.
We named the women we knew were running for positions: Laurie
Winterfield-Shanks
(sorry about spelling), Alicia Rodrquez, Sonia Hohnadel, and Lisa
Gallegos. Tammi
Yak, who was considering running for mayor, is now having some short term
health
difficulties and will not be able to run for this election.
The group decided to set goals for the next meeting:
Each active member should bring 2 new members the next meeting.
Please invite these new women by showing them our mission statement and
core values,
so that they will understand what type of group it is, and in what
direction we are
moving.
